Musical

The kids participated in a musical this week.  They have been working on it for about 3 months. They did great!  Sassy even had a solo part!  We are suppose to be getting a video of it soon and I hope to post sections of it.

For the Love

Sassy and Rocket are both participating in a 6 week basketball camp at the local international school.  

The coach is from the US and use to play for a professional team.  He is really good with the kids.  Here are a few photos from practice one day.

We had a great time at the zoo this morning.  The best part...we only spent $15 dollars total for the whole thing...including hotdogs from 7-11!

What was at Co-op this week...

Do you know what this little creature is?

This little guy is a sugar glider.  The young man had two of them as pets.  I set down right near this kid to eat lunch and looked over and saw this animal looking at me!  It took me by surprise.  If I had a picture of his face it reminded me of a bat's face.  Sassy said, "Momma, I don't want a dog now, I want a sugar glider!"  HA!  Not in this lifetime.  :)

Getting Ready for Co- op

On Mondays we are so blessed to be apart of a rather large co-op.  This is were families have come together to teach different classes and the kids benefit from the gifts and talents of other parents.

This semester Rocket and Sassy are in basketball, a math games class, Bible storying (my class) and drama.

We love our Mondays!

In my life this week…We survived!  Yes, it has been one of those weeks when I asked God, why me??  Why did you call me to home school?  The great thing about home school is that I know next week will be better!

I think most of my problems reside in selfishness...wanting to do things other than teaching my kids.  Something I know I need to work on. I remind myself that these days are passing fast and I will long to have them back one day!

In our home school this week…Rocket and I finished Pocahontas and he was a bit disappointed at the ending.  Little Lady and I are suppose to be reading The Master Puppeteer but that book is hard to read!  The chapters are extremely long and the words are extremely difficult!  I had hoped my sweetheart would read it to her, but he doesn't have time.  We will see if I continue it or not.  :)  I did teach Sassy to measure angles.  Fun!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…I created a daily form for Rocket to use for his school.  The weekly schedules in Sonlight is a bit overwhelming for him.  Today was the first day and he said he like the daily schedule much better.

I am inspired by…Mommas who teach their children year after year and never give up.  I am in a co-op with some moms whose children have learning disabilities and hearing the struggles they face daily...yet they keep at it!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…we have a couple extra kiddos this weekend and we are headed up to the top of the mountain tomorrow morning to do a little camping!  I love that place.  It will be cold up there.

My favorite thing this week was…the chocolate I bought at our local store that is made in Germany from cocoa beans from ECUADOR.  It was yummy and I did share with the family.  I was thinking that chocolate could possibly be a trigger for my migraines...but I didn't get one after eating a couple pieces.  Thank you Jesus!  I sure don't want to give chocolate up!

What’s working for us...My sweetheart and I are one month into our habit of going to the gym three times a week at 5:45am.  It is a great way to start the day.  

Things I’m working on… an ESL booklet, getting the kid's school notebooks ready for the 2nd 6 weeks of school.  I can't believe we are starting week 7 next week!  I am working on learning Thai too!  I don't think I will ever NOT work on that one.  Such a difficult language.

I’m reading…the Bible and that is about it! I wish I had time for something else.

I’m cooking…cinnamon rolls for breakfast. YUMMY!

I’m grateful for…our jobs and ministry!  So many struggle all around us and yet the Lord has blessed us greatly.

I’m praying for…a friend's husband who has had back pain for a long time...salvation for my sweet helper and many more...for our adoption process(we are waiting on one more background check from the FBI).

Home School Mother's Journal

In my life this week…it was busy!  We had OT appointments, piano lessons, Jazz, Little Lady started a new Bible Study at the local international school, I had a neurologist appointment and Hubby taught at his local school for his work permit and then worked the rest of the week on computers.  In the midst of all that...we completed week 4 of home school!

In our home school this week...Little Lady is learning about New Zealand and the human body.  She started a new book called Blue Skies and Red Sand and we finished The Island of the Blue Dolphin!  I can say I LOVE that book!  She also studied the urinary system and the respiratory system. We learned some disgusting facts about the urinary system!  :)  I may just have to share those sometime.  
Little Man and I started The Sign of the Beaver as our read aloud and we were studying about different animals this week.  We are learning what an amazing creator we have and how much fun he must have had making all the animals!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…As I am reading our read aloud Little Man has been doing a little day dreaming.  When I go to ask him questions he can't answer most of them.  I just don't have the time to re-read the chapters to him and the books are too difficult to be read independently....and he needs to be able to comprehend the material.  I looked online at audio books so that he could go and listen to the book again if he doesn't listen the first time.  They were expensive...anywhere from 10-12 dollars.  I looked on Amazon and remembered there is audio on my Kindle.  The book was $5 and now he will have to re-listen to the book and answer the questions by writing the answers if he can't answer them when I read to him the first time.  Hoping this works!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…this week we are starting back to CO-OP.  This is a group of home schooled families who meet together and teach classes for the kids.  We participated for a couple months last winter before we went to the States and we loved it.  I will be teaching a Bible Storying class to 3rd-5th graders. 

My favorite thing this week was…making lasagna for the very first time ever and having the family ohh and ahh over it.  I didn't care so much for it.  Never have liked lasagna but hey, if they love it I will make it!

Things I’m working on…CO-OP plans...memorize my first story.  Finishing my last EFL class this Monday.  Trying to come up with something creative to teach sentence structure.  

I’m reading…the Bible a little bit of this and that.

I’m cooking…I made a menu for this week!  It has been awhile. I am trying to save on our grocery bill so I inventoried what we had in the frig and cabinets and today Hubby and I set out to get only what I needed. 
I will be posting my Monday menu on Monday.  :)

I’m grateful for…a pool and weight room we have access to.  I am grateful my Hubby is being disciplines and working out 3-4 days a week with me.

I’m praying for…Texas to get rain...fires to cease and those we know who have lost everything.  Also praying that I can stop having these migraines.  They are really cramping my style!

In my life this week…We slowed down and started the school year off.  It has been an amazing week!

In our homeschool this week…We completed the first week!  Little Man told me twice he loves our new curriculum and Little Lady asked if we could read some of her read-aloud today even though we didn't have it scheduled.  We are reading Island of the Blue Dolphins together and we are both hooked!

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…Get up early, exercise, have your quiet time, have breakfast ready and the day goes so smooth!

I am inspired by…My husband's work ethic!  He is such a hard worker.  

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…We are going nowhere this weekend!  We are having a fellowship with our house church group tomorrow.  Should be fun!  Italian food is involved.

My favorite thing this week was…Seeing my children excited and enjoying school!

What’s working/not working for us…I need to order a better English program for Little Man and a writing program for Little Lady.  I love everything about Sonlight except the English part of it.  

Questions/thoughts I have…What is a good writing program for a 5th grader?

Things I’m working on…well, I rearranged the furniture twice this week!  HA!  I am wanting to buy a few pieces of furniture...we will have to see what Hubby says though.  

I’m reading…Levitucus with the family at night, Luke with Little Man in the mornings and for pleasure I am starting the Left Behind Series.

I’m cooking…Olive Garden Salad and Dressing and chocolate cake for our fellowship tomorrow.

I’m grateful for…a smooth first week of school!

I’m praying for…our adoption process, peace and contentment of living overseas, and a friend who just left both her children here at the boarding school...hard times for a momma's heart!
