A comfort of home...Walmart. We all have dreams of visiting that ever so wonderful one stop shop. Shopping here requires going to several different stores to obtain all the things you might need for a meal. The other day I needed nutmeg and drove 30 minutes to the one and only store I thought I remembered seeing it at. I prayed the whole way there that it would be there because I had no where else to look. The Lord heard my prayer and I got some fresh asparagus too! So those of us who live outside the US and have only vivid memories of that wonderful store dream and dream often of going in and spending hours just looking and getting everything we need that week just in that one store!
I think we talk about Walmart like it is this wonderful dream place. Our children have these amazingly disorted pictures of Walmart in their heads. Tonight at dinner Little lady was telling us that after she finishes college she wants to teach for awhile and then she wants to work at Walmart. "Wouldn't it be really fun to work at Walmart!" Little Man chimes in "Yes, it would be fun and you would make a lot of money!" Hubby and I were laughing so hard by this point. They couldn't understand why we thought it was funny that they thought working at Walmart would be a dream job. It is something about traveling across the ocean to make you forget what reality is really like. You know, the crowds at Walmart and always spending way too much. I could never stay committed to my list. I am an unfaithful wanderer. Here, there is no place to wander and the most my grocery bill is ever close to is $20 or less. $20 is a lot!
Back to the the Walmart dream job...
We had the discussion of how hard and long these people have to work and no they don't make a lot of money, unless of course your the manager, and then you have no time for family or anything else outside of work. I explained how many times a checker would be checking my groceries and they would be exhausted or in a foul mood. So many times all they needed was a kind word or a smile. They were overworked and underpaid.
This ever evolving conversation turned into a talk of how many people living here would give anything to have a job like working at Walmart. Now that would be a dream for some. Kinda made Hubby and I feel a guilty for laughing about our daughter wanting to work at Walmart.
We made sure that Little Lady and Little Man understood no matter where they work or what they do, they have to do it to bring glory to God and that the money should not matter.
And...
If they choose to work at Walmart, I would be their number one customer!
