Washington DC

We had a very wonderful and long day in Washington DC. We met many nationals from South Asia and shared the Good News with them. We ate wonderful Indian food and threw in a little sight seeing. :)

We got mail!!

We got mail! My mom sent a package with some cards and goodies in it. It just so happened to arrive on the same day that we had our "cultural mail" day! We went to check our mail box not really knowing if we had anything or not. Shannon had to stand in a long line with his picture ID. It was freezing cold. People kept cutting and then they would call their friends to the front of the line. He could have paid a bribe to get to front of the line. But my husband will hardly ever pay bribe money! He finally got to the front the honest way and the workers told him they wanted some tea. They wanted him to go and get it for them. He then pulled out some bribe money ($1). It worked. They handed him a slip of paper and told him to go all the way to the other side of the campus to pick up my package! He stood in line again. Once at the front of the line they told him the package was not in his name and he needed to get me. So Shannon pulled out a 5 dollar bill (this was all during dinner time and he was getting hungry). They took the bribe and gave him the package!!! It was a true cultural post office experience. All the bribe money that the postal workers collected is going to be donated to Lottie Moon!

Half-way

Half way there!!! We are on the down hill slide to being done with orientation. This has been an exhausting week. The weekend is in sight!
Today we learned how to learn language. How to work with a national and how to get them to teach us the language. It was really good stuff and I can't wait to use it in a couple of months! Tonight the kids are going to learn how to share Jesus with others using the EVANGECUBE. One thing the Lord is really opening my eyes to is that my husband and I are not the only ones called to share Christ with others, but the kids are also called. We are called as a family. Asians love children and children have a wide open presence to share!

African Worship

Every Sunday evening we attend a worship service that resembles those from all over the world. Last Sunday we had an African worship service and all the women had to cover there heads. It was fun! Men sat on one side of the room and the women and children sat on the other side. All the "white haired men" sat in the front in chairs while the rest of us sat on the floor. The music and service were in several different languages since Africa has so many languages.

So much to talk about...

Two down and six to go. That's weeks of orientation left. I haven't even sit down once to share. I am so sorry! They keep us so busy, morning to night. Plus we don't have internet in our house. :( It actually has helped me get my reading assignments done. I feel like I am back in college with assignments and papers to write. :) I have loved being here. Our first week we came and just became acquainted with the campus and all the resources and assignments we have. Last Friday, they gave us a spiritual retreat....just me and the Father together. How sweet that time was and how needed it was. This week was spent with our president learning about spiritual warfare. We are headed into Satan's territory and he doesn't want us there and he will do what he can to make us feel defeated. BUT, we have the tools for VICTORY! We had a language learning workshop yesterday and today I took an ESL/EFL certification class. Tomorrow will be house church and cultural worship(in another language). Tomorrow I am so excited that I will get a NAP!! As you can see I am busy, and the Father is teaching me so much that I want to share. Soon I will share!
